Obituary for Willem Noel VanRijswijck

Willem Noel VanRijswijck, 71, of Leavenworth, KS passed away on Monday, November 9th, 2020 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends at a visitation prior to the Memorial service from 2 to 3 pm, Monday, Nov. 16, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS where the Memorial service will follow at 3 pm, on Monday afternoon Nov. 16, also at the funeral home.
Willem was born in Surabaya, Indonesia and grew up in the Netherlands. He fell in love with a beautiful nursing student in Groningen, who stole his heart. They proceeded to marry and have 3 sons and 3 daughters. As a loving father and grandfather, Willem worked hard to care for his family. He was always willing to help anyone in need and served in many capacities throughout his life, beginning with his service in the Dutch Air Force as a young newlywed. Willem loved to travel, work on cars and spend time with family. He will always be lovingly remembered for living his life on his own terms and for the significant impact that he had on his children and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly.

He was proceeded in death by 5 sibblings, Jan Van Rijswijck, Sylvia Els De Kamps, Stanley Tyrone Bartholomeusz, Rodney Gary Bartholomeusz and Lorraine Joan Miskin.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Van Rijswijck, children, John Van Rijswijck, Mary-Ann Warren, Jim Van Rijswijck, Pete Van Rijswijck, Naomi Panui, Hannah Taito, siblings, Paul Andre Van Rijswijck, Adolphine De Groot and Shirley Arleen Morris, 26 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ps: we had great times with uncle Wim and auntie Anneke when visiting Kauai back in 2002! Good memories.

To the Van Rijswijck family
so many years ago have passed since I have seen any of you. I am so very saddened to hear of Wim's passing. I have lost my Dutch brother, which is what I have called him since we first met in Den Helder in 1964. Sadly, over the years we lost touch but have often tried to find the family and Wim especially. I have many memories of "talking" with Wim about so many things, smiling at the pranks he used to play on the missionaries, of trying to mediate "discussions" between him and his father when I lived in the family home for about 5 months while a missionary. I have met so many of Wim's family members, met his family at the Sale Lake City airport when they came from Holland and we all stayed in my one-room apartment for a night with kids sleeping all over the floor. That was an adventure. Wim was a kind soul, 0nly wanted the very best for his family and I think tried very hard to make sure that they had what they needed and tried to guide them the best way he knew how. He loved all of you dearly. My heart and hope for many blessings of comfort will be with each of you at this very difficult time. Much love, Carolyn Andersen
