Donald Henry  Oswald
Donald Henry Oswald, age 91, of Basehor, KS. passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 9:30 to 11am, with the Funeral Mass Service starting at 11am, both Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, KS. with burial to follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Adoration Chapel at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Don was born on Dec. 25, 1925 in Pitcher, Oklahoma, the third of four children born to Anthony and Lydia (Edwards) Oswald. He was drafted into the US Navy, serving on the Battleship USS West Virginia during World War II. Don married Rose Saragusa on June 21, 1947 in Kansas City, KS. and made their home there, until moving to Basehor. Don retired as Police Sergeant after a 23 year career with the Kansas City Kansas Police Department. He went on to work as a Security Guard at the Kansas City Star Newspaper for 15 years. Don and Rose have been longtime members of the Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Kansas City Kansas Police & Fire Retirees Assoc. Don was known as a hard worker, a wonderful carpenter and an avid hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Anthony W. Oswald and one sister Cora M. Oswald.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rose M. Oswald of the home, three children, Donna Oswald Jenkins of Overland Park, KS., Steven A. Oswald and wife Joyce L. of Kansas City, KS., and Kevin M. Oswald and wife Terri L. of Bonner Springs, KS., one sister Helen Oswald Saragusa and husband Joseph A. of Overland Park, KS., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
