Obituary for Leland Allen Johnson

Leland Allen Johnson, of Basehor, KS, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. As always, he was surrounded by his family, and hand in hand with Beverly, his wife of 63 years. Leland was 87.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 5th, at Emanuel Church of the Nazarene in Council Bluffs, IA followed by an internment service at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS at 11 am, on Monday, September 11th, 2017. A drop-in Celebration of Life is planned for friends and family at the Basehor, KS home of Kandy and Beverly Johnson on Saturday, September 9, from 2 – 4 pm.
The family suggests memorial contributions to VITAS Hospice, 13316 W. 98th St., Lenexa, KS 66215 whose staff provided quality care and support for Leland and his family over the past two years of his life at home.

Mr. Johnson was born June 26, 1930 in Griswold, Iowa to Clifford and Velma Johnson. After earning a business degree in Omaha and starting a job with Johnson Hardware, he joined the army and served his country during the Korean War and in the reserves. After his return from active duty, he married Beverly Gieselman and established a career at Johnson Hardware, Specifying Commercial grade hardware for major construction companies building the Omaha skyline during the 70’s and 80’s. Leland retired as president of Johnson Hardware in 1992.
Although Mr. Johnson was recognized as a local businessman, his life was centered on family, friends and serving God through his numerous leadership roles at Emanuel Church of the Nazarene in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During the last 25 years, he and Beverly enjoyed taking care of their home, running errands, and going to Hawaii, setting up a chair in the Pacific Ocean and taking in creation’s magnificence.
Mr Johnson is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Basehor, KS; his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Jill Johnson, of Omaha, NE; Kandace Johnson, also of Basehor, KS; two grandsons, three step-grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brother, Bernard Johnson and sister, Delores Dau; and numerous nieces and nephews.
