Obituary for Victor Ziegler

Victor Ziegler
Victor Erwin Ziegler, 85, of Basehor, Kansas died on Thursday, August 1, 2013 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was a loving brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Vic was born on April 11, 1928 near Hebron, North Dakota. His mother passed away a week after his birth and he was raised by his beloved Uncle Christian and Aunt Katharina until returning to the homestead to be raised by his sisters Clara and Lora when he was 8. He worked on the farm and ranch until serving with distinction in the Korean War. In 1956, he graduated college on the GI Bill from North Dakota State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for North Dakota Water Resources Board, irrigation firm in Blythe, California, State of Nebraska Health and Human Services in Lincoln, Metropolitan Area Planning Agency in Omaha, and in 1971, was one of the first employees hired at the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Kansas City until retiring in 1989. The family moved from Shawnee to Basehor, Kansas in 1978.
Victor and Marjorie Nubson were married on June 17, 1956 in Fargo, North Dakota and worked as a team to raise their children and grandchildren and were excellent role models. They loved their dogs, cats, chickens, horses and cattle. Vic could always find an outdoor project, especially with his Gelbvieh cattle, repairing tractors, haying, and maintaining rental properties. His version of play was work.
Vic lent his no-nonsense, “get things done” personality to lead in various organizations during his lifetime. He was President of his college fraternity, served on the Basehor City Council from 1997-2001, helped establish the water district in the neighborhood, and spent many years as President of the Congregation at Emmaus Lutheran Church and was a current member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Basehor.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Friederich (Fred) and Sophia (Maas), brothers Albert, Henry, Paul, Emanuel, Carl, Arnold, and Rudolph and sister Clara. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Marjorie, son Andrew, (Kim) and grandson, Alexander, and daughter Vicki (Timothy Lamb), and grandsons Brenden and Griffin, and sister Lora.
Funeral service will be at 11 am Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 14700 Leavenworth Road, Basehor, Kansas with burial to follow at 1:00 pm in the Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 am prior to the service.
