Obituary for Ed C. Nealy

Ed C. Nealy, age 82, of Shawnee, KS. and previously of Bonner Springs, KS., passed away at home on Tuesday, March 6th, 2018. Visitation will be Friday, March 9th from 5pm to 7pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 7pm, both at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial will be 1pm Saturday, March 10th at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, MO. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Ed was born on December 10, 1935 in Redings Mill, Missouri, the only child born to Edgar Carl and Emma Louise (Nolan) Nealy. Ed grew up in Webb City, MO and graduated from Webb City High School in 1953. He was inducted into the Webb City Hall of Fame in 2017. After high school he attended Joplin Junior College (Missouri Southern) completing his college education at Kansas State Teacher’s College of Pittsburg (Pittsburg State University). While attending college at Pittsburg, he was a member of the 1955 third place NAIA Tournament Team. In 1956 earned the distinction of Mr. Basketball. Ed was also a member of the 1957 National Champion Football Team. Post graduation from Pittsburg Ed coached the Junior Varsity Basketball Team as well as assisting Varsity. His third sport was Golf of which he chose to continue to play competitively in the Joplin area post graduation. Ed worked at Eagle-Picher Battery Manufacturer in Joplin before beginning teaching, first at Carl Junction High School, followed by Webb City High School, and a long career at Bonner Springs High School. Ed was a Kansas State High School Track Meet Official Starter and started Track meets in the greater Kansas City area. He also was a referee for Football at the high school, junior college and college levels. After his retirement from the public school system, he coached Basketball at Gilman City, Missouri and taught Drivers Education with Harder Performance Driver Education School in Overland Park, KS.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Ardys Kenyan, his six children; Carla Thompson (Craig) of Colorado Springs, CO., Cathy Biltoft (Roger) of Nelson, NE., Carrie Richardson of Lee’s Summit, MO., Eddie Nealy (DeAnn) of San Antonio, TX., Cheryl Miller (Mike) of Stilwell, KS., Diane Nealy of Louisburg, KS., and their mother Jeanne, 16 grandchildren; Jamie, Corbin, Kelly, Kaley, Taylor, Ted, Spencer, Gage, Ryan, Hunter, Kelsey, Anthony, Parker, Kobi, Skyler and Emma, 8 great-grandchildren; Jalyn, Colette, Trey, Max, Bryar, Brinley, Sloane and Merritt. And his beloved cats Sassy girl and Kitty Boy.

Ed enjoyed traveling all over with his friends and going to the Casino’s. Ed will be missed greatly by his family, great friends and his beloved cats.
