Charles “Charley” D. Rickey , age 68, of Tonganoxie, Kansas passed away on Tuesday April 19th, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 27th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Leavenworth V.A. National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 26 also at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.
Charley was born on September 29, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Washington High School in 1965. He went on to proudly serve four years in the U.S. Navy with three tours in Vietnam. Upon returning from the Service he married Sandy (Owens) and together they made their home in Tonganoxie where they raised their five children. Charley was a member of the Asbestos Workers Union Local 27, retiring after 36 years. He also was a lifetime member of the Tonganoxie VFW Post 9271 and the West Haven Baptist Church. Charley was preceded in death by his father Leslie Herman Rickey in 1985. Survivors include his wife Sandy Rickey of the home. Five children; Tracy Rickey of Osage City, KS., Tressia Calabrese of Crossville, TN., Cindy Florence and husband Eric of Highland, KS., Charles “Chopper” Rickey and wife Mary of Linwood, KS., and Steven Rickey and wife Jamie of Baldwin City, KS., His mother Frances Rickey of Leavenworth, KS., three sisters; Vicki Bryan of Leavenworth, KS., Reba Ohler and husband Gary of Tonganoxie, KS., and Cheryl Nunn and husband Floyd of Bonner Springs, KS., 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
