Obituary for William John Underwood
William “John” Underwood, of Kansas City, KS
December 21, 1940 - October 12, 2022
John was born December 21, 1940 in Eminence, MO to the late William E. and Silva L. Miller Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters Frances Ridenour (Perry) and Sylvia Brown-Williams. As well as a great granddaughter Paisley Jones.
John was a truck driver for Wilson & Co. and then for Associated Wholesale Grocers of KCK – retired. John loved the outdoors, especially the lakes for boating and water skiing until sunset and most of all he loved fishing and hunting. Having held many a fish fry for family and friends.
He is survived by his children, his daughter Lori Jones-Fields and his son David John Underwood (Leona). A grandson Kyle Jones (Kalyn). Four great-grandchildren Jensen, Kennedy, Hudson and Shelby Jones. Two sisters Doris Mills (Harold) and Cora L. Moses and one brother E. Calvin Underwood (Kathi) many nieces and nephews and his friend Donna DeCaigny-Underwood.
John’s family would like to recognize the wonderful staff at Lansing Care and Rehabilitation and Avalon Hospice that cared for their dad, at the end of his life. Our family is humbled and inspired by their service, their work and their commitment that was given to their father.
A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, on Tuesday, October 18, at the Funeral Service will follow at 2:30 PM, Tuesday, October 18, both at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS. Burial will follow in the Edwardsville Cemetery, Edwardsville, KS.
