Obituary for William Charles "Bill" Blankenship

William “Bill” C. Blankenship, age 88, of Bonner Springs, KS., passed away on Monday, January 13th, 2020. Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday, Jan. 16th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with a Graveside Funeral Service at 2pm Friday, Jan 17th in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to Vitas Hospice.
Bill was born on July 26, 1931 in Huron, Kansas. He was one of three children born to Fred & Irene (Kurzhal) Blankenship. Bill grew up near Atchison, Kansas and attended school in Effingham, Kansas. After his father passed away, Bill joined the US Army, proudly serving 6 years in Germany. Bill married Lois Imogene Berry on Aug. 30, 1952 in Temple, Texas. Together, Bill and Imogene made their home in Kansas City, KS. and later in Bonner Springs, where they raised their two children. Bill worked his entire career as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for multiple highway contractors in the area, retiring in 1993. Bill enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their various activities, spending time with his family at his home and fishing with the grandchildren. Bill also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and trips to area Casinos.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, most recently by his mother, just five years ago, and by one sister Lola Bradley.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Blankenship of the home. Two children: son Biff Blankenship, daughter Pamela Phelps and husband Danny all of Bonner Springs, KS. Sister Donna Pike and husband Tom of St. Joseph, MO. Four grandchildren: Biff Blankenship, Jr. and wife Toni, Nikki Kirschner and husband Josh, Jarred Harrington and wife JoHannah, and Connor Harrington. Four great-grandchildren: Molly, Will, Lyric and Aisley. As well as several extended family and friends.
