Willa M “Lloyd” Burton, a longtime resident of Bonner Springs KS, passed surrounded by family on January 28th, 2021. She was 81 years old. Willa was born in Pembroke, NC. on November 13th, 1939. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a great grandmother. She was united in marriage to Gerald Thomas Burton on June 2nd, 1956 in Dillon, SC.
Willa was a Native American within the Lumbee tribe. The Lumbee Tribe is the largest tribe in North Carolina, the largest tribe east of the Mississippi River and the ninth largest tribe in the nation. She was proud of her heritage.
She had a masterful green thumb and had an amazing knack for making her flowers bloom continuously all season. She loved her flower beds, and they provided her great satisfaction and joy. In addition, she loved their dogs Duke and Zena. She was the quintessential definition of a southern cook. The family will miss her southern specialties, especially her collards and mustard greens.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Karen Burton of Overland Park, KS.; her son Brett Burton of Leavenworth, KS.; her daughter and son-in-law Kristy and Roger Cox of Kansas City, KS.; her daughter and son-in-law Kelly and David Anderson of Overland Park, KS.; friend of the family Todd Smith of Leavenworth, KS.; her daughter-in-law Ginger Burton of Centerville, IA.; her four grandchildren; and her four great grandchildren. And a special recognition to her devoted niece, Denise Dial of Pembroke, NC.
She will be buried in the Leavenworth National Cemetery alongside her husband of 64 years, Gerald Thomas Burton. They lived together in Happiness… they rest together in Peace.
