Virgil Bruce McComb passed away on September 11, 2022 at the age of 80, at St. Luke’s Hospice House surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. located at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. We will meet at Alden Harrington Funeral Home to escort his remains to Leavenworth. Immediately following the service, we head to Wyandotte County Lake Shelter 10 where there will be a Celebration of Life. Please feel free to bring a favorite dish as this is a potluck. We will provide finger sandwiches and a few sides.
Bruce was born on June 21, 1942 in Edwardsville, Kansas. He was in the United States Army where he was able to receive his GED and was later honorably discharged. He worked at the Kansas City Street Department for several years and then eventually moved to Traftec where he later retired. His greatest accomplishment was being a grandpa or “Pawl” as they would call him. He loved hanging out with family and friends while having a few Coors Lights. He enjoyed playing pool and hanging out with friends at Bill’s 32 West. Everyone who knew Bruce was blessed beyond measure.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Cynthia (Sons) McComb, his wife Eleanor “Ellie” McComb, two brothers Corvan and Jimmy McComb, sons Ted “Tedro” McComb, Joseph “JoJo” Rita, and Timothy “Tim Buck” Rita.
He is survived by his granddaughters Samantha McComb and Heather (Finace) of the home and Rebecca Lesher of Wichita, Kansas along with his daughter Sonya Wilder and her husband Richard and daughter in-law Tammy Rita not to mention his great grandchildren Jasmine and Samuel.
