Obituary for Vernon Duane Laffere

Vernon Duane Laffere, 87, of Basehor, KS passed away Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021. Vernon left this world surrounded by the family he loved and to which he committed his life. He is survived by his wife Darlene, brother Jerry (Jackie), son Michael (Karen), daughter Susan (Frank), and daughter-in-law Carolyn along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Vernon was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Myrna Lou Talbolt, and son David.
Vernon was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. DeHaven during the Korean War. After his service he became a Kansas Highway Patrolman assigned to the Kansas City area. After several years he transferred to Concordia, Kansas. He worked at Clovd Ceramics until retirement. After retiring, he and Darlene returned to the Kansas City area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Once back in K.C., Vernon spent many a happy hour at ballfields and basketball courts cheering on his grandchildren or working in his wood shop creating crafts.
Celebration of life will be from 11 to 3 pm, Sunday, May 30, at the Tonganoxie VFW 910 E. 1st St. Tonganoxie, KS 66086. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be sent to the charity of your choice.
