VERA I. “CHRIS” MCMILLIAN
Vera Irene “Chris” McMillian, 92, of Kansas City, KS passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Providence Place Nursing Home in Kansas City, KS. Services are planned for Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. The family will receive friends at the Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. The burial will follow at the Stony Point Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. Chris was born on June 25, 1928 in Columbus, KS, the fourth of eight children, to George and Irene Christiansen. She grew up on a dairy farm and moved to the Kansas City area after high school to attend the Bethany Hospital Nursing Program, graduating in 1949. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Chris loved to cook and bake and was very proud of her many Blue Ribbons that she received at the Wyandotte County Fair. She had an interest in and a passion for antique dolls and her collection numbered over 500. More than anything else, Chris loved and took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Chris was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Hollis McMillian in 2003, one son, James McMillian in 2008 and a daughter, Joy Collins in 2011. She was also predeceased by her parents, George and Irene, brothers, Everett and Fred and sisters, Grace and Mary. She is survived by three children, John McMillian and his wife Sandy of Kansas City, KS; Jean Chinn of Leavenworth, KS; and Jan McMillian and his wife Kay of Kansas City, KS. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Kevin Collins of Olathe, KS and a daughter-in-law, Ann McMillian of Bellevue, NE. She also leaves behind one brother, Ted Christiansen of Powell, WY and two sisters, Jean Fitzgerald and Dorothy Yaege both of Manhattan, KS, 11grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
