Tom was born on April 30th 1978 in Aberdeen, South Dakota and was the oldest of two children of Gary & Kathy Tatum. Tom grew up in Lawrence, Kansas and graduated from Lawrence High School in the Class of 1996. After college he entered the field of Radiology and specialized in Nuclear medicine. His career path ultimately lead him into Healthcare Leadership (obtaining his MBA) where he excelled and found his true passion. One of Toms greatest accomplishments of his career was obtaining the first ever ACR “Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence,” in the state of California. He was so very proud to lead his team to that accomplishment. Tom was well respected for his dedication, his inspiration and left a true impact on his work peers and the teams that he so influentially lead.
Throughout his life Tom enjoyed sports, particularly Football, Baseball, Cars and his large collection of suits, ties, shoes and watches. He loved spending time with family, planning out their vacations and including every detail. He was a giver of experiences and loved to share those experiences with family and friends. In 2019 Tom was so proud to become a father. He loved his time with Tyler and made so many sweet memories with him. Tyler would say his favorite was playing animals with Daddy and learning about Dinosaurs.
He was preceded in death by his biological father Thomas Welch and a beloved uncle Mike.
Survivors include his wife Darla Tatum and son Tyler Tatum of Lee’s Summit, Mo., parents Gary & Kathy Tatum of Kansas City, MO., sister Brandy Turley and her husband Steve and their son Henry of Wichita, KS., maternal grandmother Genevieve Hojnacke of Madison, South Dakota.
