Tom H. Gray
Thomas Homer Gray, age 96, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on Sunday, October 4th, 2020. Visitation will be 10-11am, followed by the funeral at 11am, both Thursday, October 8th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, burial to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, Basehor, KS.
Tom was born on September 6, 1924 on his family’s farm in what was Glenwood, Kansas. He was the youngest of five children born to Guy & Annie (Watson) Gray. Tom grew up and worked on his family’s farm and graduated from Tonganoxie High School in the Class of 1942. Over the years Tom had a route for the KC Star, drove a truck delivering Gas, a Milk Truck for Meyer Dairy, had his own Dump Truck and served on the Bonner Springs Planning Commission. On February 16, 1963 he married the love of his life, Clara (Knipp) at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bonner Springs. Tom and Clara were well known for selling their asparagus and their u-pick strawberry field. Even though they never had children of their own, they were proud to be the adoptive grandparents of the “Wiley kids”.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Wesley Gray, Andrew Gray, Tressa Roller and Gail Gray. Survivors include his wife (with whom he shared the same birthday) Clara Gray of the home, her sister Coranne Cline of Bessemer, AL, adopted granddaughter Tonya Wiley, her husband Doug and their children, Tom’s trusted four legged companion “Mitzy”, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
