Obituary

Obituary for Stephen Robert "Steve" Elmer Sr.

Stephen “Steve” Robert Elmer, Sr., age 68, of Bonner Springs and previously of DeSoto, KS. passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Rosary and Prayer Service will follow at 7pm, both Thursday, Aug. 29th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
Steve was born on July 1, 1951 at his family’s home in Rural Leavenworth County, Kansas and was one of 13 children born to Tom & Irma (Miller) Elmer. He grew up near Linwood where he attended schools and graduated from Linwood High School in the Class of 1969. Steve married Gloria (Nelson) on February 13, 1971 in Kansas City, KS and then proudly served four years in the U.S. Army. Steve had worked as a Machinist at Kansas Auto Supply and National Beef Packing Co. both in Kansas City, KS. He then went into Carpentry for several years specializing in Remodeling and Renovations. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his Parents, two brothers Ed & Tom Elmer, and by one daughter Pamela Elmer in 1991. Survivors include his wife Gloria Elmer of the home, three children Sherry McFarland of Overland Park, KS., Stephen R. Elmer, Jr. of Kansas City, KS. and Wesley Elmer and wife Amy of Basehor, KS., Ten siblings; Jim, Tim, Ann, Rosalie, Helen, Bill, Alicia, Mark, Tony and Wayne. Eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and several other extended family and friends.

Condolences to the always caring Elmer Family! I will always remember poker nights and laughs with Steve at Wayne's house and him giving me a hard time about three card low! He would say "pairs are not good" Everytime I played a hand lol. 💙
