RUTH E. ZIMMERMAN
Ruth Esther Zimmerman, 80, of De Soto, KS passed away on Fri., Aug. 10, 2018 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm, Wed., evening Aug. 15, and Funeral will be at 10 am, Thur., Aug. 16 both at the De Soto Baptist Church at 8655 Church St (Copeland Way) De Soto, KS 66018. The family suggests memorial contributions to the De Soto Rotary Polio Plus Fund in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS 66012. Ruth was born Dec. 10, 1937 in Piper, KS and lived the majority of her life in De Soto, KS after moving there in her early childhood after a long stay in Bethany Hospital with Polio. Later she graduated from De Soto High School in 1955 and then received her Bachelors in Home Economics and Business from Emporia State Teachers College. She taught Home Economics at D e Soto High School for several years. She also worked as a receptionist for the Doctors Office in De Soto for 30 years retiring in 2008. She loved spending time with her family and being at home watching the many birds that they fed outside their kitchen window. She was very active in raising money Door to Door for March of Dimes. She was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Rayn Mandich in 2008. And she is survived by her husband of 60 years Darrel Zimmerman of the home and four children Dee Ann Mandich and her husband Danny of De Soto, KS; Barry Zimmerman and his wife Karen of De Soto, KS; Lisa Zimmerman of Snyder, NY and Kris Zimmerman and Nicole of De Soto, KS. One sister Shirley Miller of Winston, NC. Eight grandchildren Danial, Dana, Debra, Bryce, Brenna, Chase, Renee and Zoey. And eight great grandchildren.
