Obituary for Ruby Maxine VanDyken

RUBY M. VANDYKEN
Ruby Maxine VanDyken, 90, of Edwardsville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Homestead of Olathe Memory Care. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, June 6, and Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, June 7, at 11 AM both at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, Kansas with burial to follow at the Leavenworth Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. The family suggest memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home. Ruby was born on September 6, 1932 in Gentry, Missouri where she grew up. She married Fred Tatum in 1948 in Saint Joseph, Missouri and they had two children, Ken and Mike. They later divorced. In 1964, she married Albert VanDyken and gained two children, Bonnie and Don. A few years later, their family grew again when Melissa and Tom were born. She spent her time raising her family. They moved to the Edwardsville, Kansas area. Later in life, she became a bookkeeper for Royal Manufacturing in Beverly, Missouri. Ruby was very religious and enjoyed watching the Gaithers, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Chelsea Church of Christ in Kansas City, Kansas. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Albert VanDyken in 1980, One son Ken Tatum, and three grandsons M.W. Tatum, Scott Tatum, and James Metz. She is survived by five children Bonnie Mock of Vero Beach, Florida; Don VanDyken and his friend Mary Mogle of Basehor, Kansas; Mike Tatum and his wife Debra of Sterling, Colorado; Melissa Wood and her husband Larry of Olathe, Kansas and Tom VanDyken and his wife Tania of Basehor, Kansas. 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandson
