Obituary for Roy Leonard Jons

Roy L. Jons
Roy Leonard Jons, age 86, lifelong resident of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at his home. Visitation will be 10-11am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11am both Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, Basehor, KS. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Glenwood 4-H Club or Kansas City Hospice.
Roy was born on September 27th, 1933 in Leavenworth, Kansas and was the only child of Roy W. & Linnie (Marshall) Jons. Roy grew up on his family’s farm and graduated from Basehor High School in the Class of 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed for a time in Verdun, France. After returning from the Military he met Charlene Olson and they were married on Oct. 10th, 1959 and together they made their home on the Family Farm where they raised their three children. Roy was proud to be the third generation to work his family’s dairy farm. Over the years, Roy had been the Dairy Superintendent of the Leavenworth County Fair and the Dairy Leader of the Glenwood 4-H Club. In his retirement, he and Charlene enjoyed traveling. Roy was known for being “easy going & kind” and being someone that people enjoyed talking and visiting with. Roy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons and being on the farm.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son in 1960 and by his wife Charlene in 2004.
Survivors include his two sons: David Jons of the home, Gary L. Jons and wife Denise of Basehor, one daughter Jennifer Messer and husband Rob of Shawnee, KS., two grandsons: Erick & Ethan Jons of Basehor.
