Obituary for Rodney Roe "Rod" Dixon

Rodney Roe “Rod” Dixon, age 69, of rural Basehor, Kansas and previously of Turner, Kansas unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Visitation will be 10am to Noon on Thursday, Sept. 22nd at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral Service will begin at Noon also at the funeral home, with burial to follow in the Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Rod was born on January 9, 1953 in Kansas City, Kansas and was one of seven children born to Earnest & Frances (Burch) Dixon, Sr. He grew up in the Turner area of Kansas City, Kansas where he met the love of his life, Helen K. Hollister. They were married on June 12, 1970 and have been together ever since. Even at a young age, Rod was fascinated by Hot Rods, Classic Cars and Motorcycles which led to his first job at Smitty’s Body Shop as a paint and body man. After a few years, he took advice of a friend and started his long career in Commercial Printing, which led to him starting his own business, Lynn Tape & Label, Inc. Rod was never one to retire, but in the last year or so he enjoyed stepping back from the business which allowed him more time to spend with Helen, traveling, tinkering with his projects and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Diane Dixon and one brother Troy “Tommy” Dixon, Sr. and his grandmother Ina Botcholett.

Survivors include his wife Helen K. Dixon of the home, their three daughters: Cherie Kiernan and husband Steve, Carrie Harrington and husband Brad and Mindy Dixon-Siler and husband Craig all of Basehor. Seven grandchildren that he absolutely adored: Stella Harrington, Macy Siler, Lake Harrington, River Kiernan , Creek Siler, Canyon Roe Kiernan and Sadie Jo Harrington. Siblings: Donna Lindley, Earnest “Butch” Dixon, Jr., Benny Dixon and Tammy Stack. As well as several extended family and friends that meant the world to him.

Rod would want his family and friends to educate themselves about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and help spread awareness for his granddaughter, Macy Siler, who is living with this condition and it’s comorbidites.
