Robert Mayhew Nelson, age 17, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 one day short of his favorite holiday - Independence Day, and only 5 short weeks shy of his 18th birthday.
Robert was a miracle baby born in Overland Park, Kansas on August 5th, 2003 to his proud parent, Tracy Nadine Mayhew. Robert was an active, inquisitive teenager who loved all things outdoors. Robert was a natural born fisherman. He could use any bait and catch any fish in any weather. Robert loved swimming, kayaking, flipping off high dives, cliff jumping, and trolling the skate park. Inside, Robert enjoyed gaming and hanging out with friends and family while eating his weight in peanut butter fudge. Robert had lots of future plans to travel, buy his first car, rent his first apartment, and grow into the 6 foot 6 man that his body had already acquired.
Robert leaves behind his mother Tracy Mayhew, grandparents Linda & Terry Dowding, Robert & Patricia Mayhew, his Aunt and Uncle Travis & Denise Barcelona, his cousins whom he considered sisters Kaycee, Destini, Rhiannon, Savannah, and his most adored and loved Isabel. Amongst his immediate family Robert also had a very large and extended family; maternal and paternal biological aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings. A far too large family to name each individually but he loved them all unconditionally. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm and the Funeral will be at 5 pm, both on Friday, July 9, at the Alden - Harrington Funeral in Bonner Springs, KS.
