Robert “Bob” Henry Gebhart, age 90, of Bonner Springs, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 26th, 2023 surrounded by his family at his home. A visitation is planned for Thursday, April 6th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home at 5:00 pm with a memorial service starting at 7:00 pm. Immediately following that service his family will be hosting a gathering to celebrate his life at the Harrington Family Event Center (next-door to the funeral home). In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans.
Bob was born on August 15, 1932, in Salina, Kansas and was the youngest of two sons born to Joseph & Ida (Barr) Gebhart. Bob grew up in the Salina and Ada, Kansas area, graduating from Ada High School in the Class of 1951. He married Marcylene “Marcy” Kissick on Oct. 19, 1952 and together they made their home in Salina and later moved to the Kansas City (Piper), Kansas area in 1958 where they raised their three children: Mike, Sherry and Terry. Marcy preceded him in death in 2007. Bob served in the Naval Air Reserves in Olathe, Kansas from 1951 to 1953. He then served in the US Army, C Battery, 734th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in Chicago, Illinois from 1953 to 1955. After the Military and his time in the Reserves, Bob had a long career as a grain merchandiser, working for Smoot Grain, Gooch Feed and later retired from Bartlett Grain in 2003. He served on the Piper Board of Education, was a member of the Piper Prairie Optimist Club and an active member of the Wolcott Baptist Church.
On March 28, 2009, Bob married Donna (Stuart-Payne) at the Maywood Community Church. They resided in the Piper area until they moved to Bonner Springs, KS in 2019. During his retirement Bob enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, spending time at the farm, organizing his antiques & collectibles, and following the local sports teams: KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and the K-State Wildcats. However, his biggest enjoyment involved interacting with people, spending time with his family & friends and attending activities & sporting events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was very proud to say that he and Donna had a total of 34 grandchildren!
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Gebhart and by a step-son Michael Payne.
He is survived by his wife Donna Gebhart of the home, his children Mike (Connie) Gebhart of Barnard, KS, Sherry (Scott) McKinley of Basehor, KS, and Terry (Gene) Kubicki of Kansas City, Kansas, Stepchildren Christy (Chase) Zellers of Orlando, FL, Nikki Gravatt of Kansas City, KS, Kim (Mike) Malone of Bonner Springs, KS; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Bob was a constant of acceptance, support, encouragement and love. He will be missed by many.
