Obituary for Robert Doyle Duncanson

R. Doyle Duncanson
On the evening of October 24, 2018, Robert Doyle Duncanson of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at Overland Park Regional Medical Center at the age of 78. Beloved husband, amazing father, doting grandpa, and steadfast friend, he left an impression on everyone he met.

Doyle was born on January 9, 1940 at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, KS to Marion Elvie (Farris) and Robert Courtney Duncanson. His parents were divorced a few years later. After his mother remarried, she and her husband, Stanford Warmbrodt, moved often for his job, so Doyle was mostly raised by his maternal grandparents, Josie Myrtle (Campbell) and Marion Lester Farris. He grew up in Basehor, KS and briefly lived in Indiana before settling in the Kansas City area.

If asked his occupation, he would refer to his almost 35 years as a mailman, but he had many jobs over the years, often in tandem with each other, including real estate agent, house flipper, and deli owner, not to mention as a driver - limo, delivery, and shuttle. Though a self-proclaimed workaholic, he never let that stop him from making time for his daughter, Denise, whom he shared with his former wife, Becky Updike; and his wife of 50 years, Margaret Ann (McEachern), and their daughters, Jennifer and Janine. He took them on roadtrips, coached their softball teams, cheered them on at dance and band competitions, and provided fatherly advice and support.

Doyle’s gregarious nature led to many friendships over the years. From coffee with the guys at Waid’s, to donuts at John’s, to chatting at McDonald’s, he was at his best cracking jokes and solving the world’s problems with his buddies. In recent years, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and continued to enjoy Sunday drives and giving tours of the city to whomever would let him.

Doyle is survived by his beloved wife, Maggie; daughter Denise Atagi and husband, Tui, of Independence, MO; daughter Jennifer Barr and husband, Rob, of Lenexa, KS; daughter Janine Tilly and husband, Kyle, of Creve Coeur, MO; and five grandchildren, Samantha Barr, Riley Barr, Robert Barr, Matthew Tilly and Miles Tilly.

A visitation for Doyle will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. Following the visitation, he will be buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Basehor, KS. Afterward, a reception will be held at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
