Ricky “Rockstar Rick” D. McDowell, age 61, of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 while surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be 10am-Noon, follow by the Funeral at Noon, both Saturday, July 17th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial in the Glenwood Cemetery, Basehor, Kansas. Memorial Contributions can be made to the “Bikers for Babies KC” in care of the Funeral Home.

Ricky was born on August 27, 1959 in Kansas City, Kansas and is the middle of three sons born to J.D. and Lyvone McDowell. He was a lifelong Bookbinder and was known for his work restoring old Harley’s, Classic Cars and even Tractors. Rick also enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family, playing music and anything where he could be the “center of attention”. He was the lead guitar and mandolin player in “The Fairmounters” a bluegrass group with his brothers Ronnie and Randy. Ricky loved to entertain, never met a stranger and never had an enemy, mostly because he made everyone feel like a friend. His brother Randy said “Ricky lived every day to the fullest, so much so, that he got Two Days to every One of ours”! Ricky loved animals and people often thought of him as a “big ol’ teddy bear”. Survivors include his parents J.D. and Lyvone McDowell of Rockport, Texas, two daughters Stephanie R. McGehee and husband Brandan of Basehor, KS., Amber L. Ward and husband Dave of McLouth, KS., nine grandchildren: Tristan, Tailey, Sierra, David, Alexis, Kylee, Ricki, Rhoni and Kellen. One brother Randy McDowell and wife Robin of Fairmount, KS., girlfriend Cheryl Linden, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
