Obituary for Richard Lee Everhart

Richard Lee Everhart, 88, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at K.U. Medical Center in K.C., KS. Visitation from 9:30 to 11 and Funeral at 11 am, both on Thursday, April 6th at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Mt. Sidney Cemetery in Linwood, KS.
Richard was born on August 15, 1934, to James W. and Audrey (Eaton) Everhart in Linwood, Kansas.
He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1953 and served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1958 and the Air Force Reserves from 1958 to 1963. Richard married Marjorie Bushnell on June 9, 1957 at Bonner Springs United Methodist Church. After the Air Force he attended Finley Engineering and the US Trade School studying auto mechanics. In 1962 Richard joined partnership with Merle Morasch Services. He later worked at Feld Chevrolet and Santa Fe Trails as a mechanic and construction jobs as a laborer. In 1971 he moved his family to Altamont, KS to become a Field Representative for the Construction and General Laborers Union Local 1290 office in Parsons, KS. In 1974 he returned to Bonner Springs to continue as Field Representative in Local 1290’s Kansas City, KS location and served as President from 1975 until his retirement in 1993.
After Richard’s retirement from the Laborers he continued his involvement in the Bonner Springs United Methodist Men, Bonner Springs Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and Local Union 1290 retirees. He also worked for All Season’s Car Wash in Bonner Springs and mowed the lawn and helped with the general upkeep at his church. Richard enjoyed tinkering in his garage fixing lawnmowers and cars . His weekly coffee group allowed him to stay updated on community news.
Richard was preceded in death by brothers Bernard Everhart and Jim Everhart and sisters Lois Kekaha and Betty Williams.
Richard is survived by his wife Marjorie of 65 years and their three children Roger Everhart and his wife Brenna of Kansas City, KS; Cindy Kelly and her husband Jim of Bonner Springs, KS and Keith Everhart and his wife Julie of Shawnee, KS. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren Jeff Everhart (Amanda), Shawn Everhart (Ashley), Erin Creson (Land), Cari Kelly, Paul Kelly, Rebecca Bishop (James), Ethan Everhart and Grant Everhart. He adored his great-grandchildren Madison Everhart, Trevor Everhart, Brielle Everhart, Daisy Everhart, Amelia Creson, Ellis Creson, Emma Kelly, Matthew Kelly, Charlie Kelly, Harper Bishop, Everett Bishop and June Bishop. He is also survived by his brother Robert Everhart.
Richard will be missed by family, friends and all who knew him. He did not know a stranger. All who knew him felt, “He was always the nicest guy in the room, a real gentleman.”
