Raymond A. “Sugarbear” May, age 70, of Kansas City, Kansas and previously of Bonner Springs, KS. passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021. Visitation will be 9am-11am, Funeral 11am, both Friday, June 11th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Ray was born on March 1, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to Leonard and Donna (Polocokovich) May. He grew up in the Bonner Springs and Edwardsville areas and graduated from Bonner Springs High School in the Class of 1969. Ray spent a lot of his childhood with his grandparents James & Sylvia Earls at their home in Edwardsville. He was proud to have worked for over 52 years as a truck driver and retired from Estes Express Lines. His pastimes included riding motorcycles, fishing, camping, getting together with his friends and classmates. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, BBQ’s, family fish fry’s, and time spent with his second family, the Passlers.
Ray was preceded in death by his Parents, Step-Sister Marsha Lingel, second wife Jennifer May, and granddaughter Michelle Hawkins.
Survivors include his wife Vickie Fish May of the home, son Michael May and wife Suzanne of Tonganoxie, KS., daughter Toni May of Raytown, MO., step-children; Steve Hawkins and wife Tanya of Tonganoxie, KS., Bob Hawkins and wife Leslea of Edwardsville, KS., Jamie Smith and wife Stacie of Lansing, KS., Joshua Smith of Cassville, MO., David Middaugh and wife Ambre of Kansas City, KS., three brothers; James May, Kendall May, Jim Poe and wife Amber, sister Aileen Manuel and husband Chuck. 17 grandchildren, three great-grandsons and one on the way.
