Obituary for Ralph F. Mies

RALPH F. MIES
Ralph F. Mies - beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather - passed away January 25, 2021.

Ralph was born June 9, 1934 in Mount Hope, Kansas, the sixth of thirteen siblings in a large, second generation German-American family. Ralph dedicated his life to family, working on his dad’s farm and hauling raw milk for processing before being drafted into Army service for two years. After meeting and marrying Lorene Hill, the first love of his life, Ralph and his family moved to Kansas City, where in 1968 he founded Mies Wholesale Meats, the second love of his life. Mies Family Foods remains a thriving family business today, a testament to the passion and hard work of its founder. Outside of the office, Ralph was a devoted philanthropist, helping found Sacred Heart Catholic Church's annual Brown Bottle Auction in 1970. He was best known for loving popsicles, car rides, vigorous handshakes during the Sign of Peace at Mass, and, most of all, his adoring family.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorene, six children (Rita, Mike, Mark, Carl, Paul and Greg), 15 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish School which can be left at the service or mailed to the church - 5501 Monticello Rd, Shawnee, KS 66226 or sent in care of the Alden - Harrington Funeral Home 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
