Obituary for Phyllis Darlene Priddy (Olson)

Print
Phyllis Darlene (Olson) Priddy, 70, of Olathe, KS, went home to Jesus on October 8, 2018. She was born November 7, 1947 in Kansas City, MO. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Leonard Olson and Frances Margaret (Johnson) Olson, her brothers Leonard and Herbert, and sisters Margaret and Ruth. Her sister Alice survives. She was a loving mother, leaving behind 5 children, Roberta (Bobbi) Miller (Paul), Rebecca (Bekki) Hicks, Susan Siscoe (Chad), Scott Priddy, and Kaden Priddy. She was also a proud grandmother of 11, Brandon (Emily), Briana, Ashley (Daniel), Jake, Shaley, Paige, Trevor, Katelyn, Cassie, Megan, and Richard (Angela); and had 3 great-grandchildren, Krystal, Destinee and Richard Jr.
Phyllis was raised in the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas, graduating from Rosedale High School in 1965. She was married for 26 years to Gary Lee Priddy, who passed away in 2008. She attended Kansas City Kansas Community College and Wright Business School, earning her associates degree in business and accounting. She worked various jobs when she was not busy being a homemaker and mother, including W.T. Grants Department Store, Waymire’s Grocery Store, Fulk Chiropractic, Decker Chiropractic and Slim 4 Life. She was the proprietor of Country Girl Fabrics in Basehor, KS because of her love of sewing, quilting and crafts. Once she grew tired of working outside of the home, she began providing day care services in her home.
Phyllis followed in her parents’ footsteps and made the sacrifice to serve as a foster parent to countless young children and teens who needed a safe place to live. There were many lives that she touched and impacted. One such boy, Kaden, came home from the hospital after being born premature with several health challenges, and was placed in her home to be cared for. He stole her heart and became her life. On his third birthday, she adopted him as her own. In her final days, one certain way to get a smile from her was to mention Kaden’s name.
While her health kept her from attending much, Phyllis loved church. She attended several churches in the area, and would call any of them home that played and sang good old-fashioned southern gospel music and hymns. Included in her longer-termed memberships were First Church of God and Hillview Church of God, both in KCK, and Indian Creek Community Church in Olathe.
The family would like to recognize a special family friend, Teresa, who came through in big ways in times of need, for which we are forever grateful. We would also like to extend our thanks to the nurses, aides, doctors and other staff at KU Medical Center and KC Hospice for the professionalism, care and compassion they provided to Phyllis and the family.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 11 am on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Hillview Church of God, 701 N 78th Street, Kansas City, KS. Cremation arrangements by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home of Bonner Springs, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her honor to KC Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145; or American Cancer Society; or your local animal rescue organization.
