Obituary for Peggy Lue Barnes (Dunkin)

Peggy Lue Barnes, 87, died peacefully in her Eudora, Kansas home July 3, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family and faithful caretakers. Peggy was born to Thomas “Joseph” and Dora May Dunkin on August 12, 1934 in the backwoods of Buffalo, Missouri. She graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1952 where she met her husband Robert D. “Bob” Barnes. The pair were married 57 years before Robert’s death in 2010. Together, the couple raised six children and proudly welcomed to the world 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A joy to all who knew her, Peggy spent much of her life creating. She left her mark on the world through art inspired by her family, faith, and the world around her. From intricate and beautiful quilts and handmade tea towels to drawings and home decor, not a single creative medium went unexplored by Peggy — a passion and talent she eagerly passed onto her children and grandchildren, in addition to her faithful (and often fiery) support of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband and one grandson, Keith Webb of Kansas City, Kansas. She is survived by her six children: Norma “Sue” Trabue and husband David, Belton, Missouri; Katheryn “Kathy” Phelps and husband Robert, Kansas City, Kansas; Bonnie Freeland and husband Mark, Basehor, Kansas; Tammy Reyes and husband Mark, Shawnee, Kansas; Robert Barnes Jr. and wife Tonya; Edmond, Oklahoma; and Ronald Barnes and wife Shelly, Basehor, Kansas. At Peggy’s request, a private graveside ceremony for her Children and Grandchildren will be held the afternoon of Aug. 13. A celebration of life gathering will follow for members of her family, their spouses, families, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peggy’s memory to Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care in support of the millions of Americans battling cancer and other long term and debilitating illnesses and the long held mantra she wished to share with them — don’t ever give up. https://crhcf.org/donate/
