Obituary for Patricia Ann "Pat" Wolfe (Hoffine)

Patricia Ann (Hoffine) Wolfe (Pat) was born on June 4, 1937. She grew up on a farm in Kansas. It was tremendously challenging work, but as a young child, she was always in her father’s shadow “helping him” with all his outside chores. She graduated with honors from Bonner Springs High School in 1955. She went on to Emporia State University and graduated in 1959 and was soon a third-grade teacher at Vance Elementary School in Kansas City, Kansas. She continued to teach there for 33 years before she retired and then went back to teaching at Language Lane for another 3 years. Because she also volunteered to tutor a student several hours weekly, she received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Pat was proud to be a lifetime member of both the N.E.A. National Education Association and the Kansas Education Association. After she retired, she became a member of both the Kansas and Wyandotte county Association of Retired School Personnel. For her excellence in teaching, she won an ADK Award and remained a member for over forty years. She always enjoyed doing several activities with other members of those organizations as well.
It was around 1964 that she met the love of her life on a blind date at the “Delaware Dancers” dance. His name was Laurence Wolfe and they married soon after on April 8, 1965. They enjoyed traveling, square dancing, camping, and building their house. It was at that time that Pat adopted Laurence’s three young girls. Pat and her sister Muriel loved to sing, and they sang with both the Bonner Springs Community Choir and the Lawrence Community Choir.
Pat loved cats and became known as one of those “crazy cat ladies”. They became her constant, loving companions. She passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, with a smile on her face because she had made it home to “independent living” and she had a cat on her lap.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents Emmett and Edith Hoffine, her husband of 37 years Laurence Wilbur Wolfe and her sister Muriel (Hoffine) Selanders. Pat is survived by her brother James Hoffine and sister-in-law Dorothy Hoffine of Bonner Springs, and her sister Kathleen (Hoffine) Saving of Lawrence Kansas. She is also survived by her three daughters, Kathy Marie (Wolfe) DeLap and husband Jay of Piper, Kansas, Elizabeth Ann (Wolfe) Pino and husband Frank of Edwardsville, Kansas, and Tammy Louise (Wolfe) Brand and husband Mark of Turner, Kansas. She had several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even some great-great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews. Most of her family lived close by so she was able to attend many family events which she enjoyed.
