Obituary for Pastor Norman L. Brooks
Pastor Norman L. Brooks, age 75, of Bonner Springs, Kansas and previously of Basehor, KS went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family. His family will receive friends at a visitation from 4:30–7:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service following at 7:00 p.m., both Monday, May 20th at the Victory Assembly of God Church in Bonner Springs. A Graveside Committal Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21st, at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.

Norman was born on September 18th, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas and was the third, of four children born to Aaron & Nellie (Spainhower) Brooks. He grew up in the Kansas City area, attending the Victoria Tabernacle Church where he met the love of his life, Ann Thomas, and they were married on February 11th, 1960. At just 21 years of age, Norman was the Owner/Operator of Brooks Grocery Market in Argentine. Norman attended Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas and later was ordained with the Assemblies of God District of Kansas. He served as the Youth Pastor at Gospel Temple in Kansas City, KS. In May of 1970 Norman was asked to reopen a closed church in Bonner Springs, KS and re-establish a new work known as Victory Assembly of God where he served his calling for 49 years. In 1976 a devastating fire destroyed the church building however with great determination working as the general contractor he rebuilt a new facility. With a vision for the future Pastor Brooks and congregation purchased 15 acres on K-7 Highway in Shawnee. Continuing his legacy the plan is to build a new facility and keep the vision for this area alive.
Norman also served as Youth Coordinator (CA Represenative) of Section One for the Kansas Assemblies of God, past President of the Bonner Springs Ministerial Alliance and was the President of Voice of Hope Missions. The Brooks’ have made numerous television and radio appearances and have ministered the Gospel internationally. Over the years, Norman had been a Contract Carrier for the Kansas City Star Newspaper and Real Estate investor. He loved to travel with his wife Ann in their Motorcoach, and more recently enjoyed spending the winters in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and in 1972 by his daughter Kelly Ann Brooks. Survivors include his wife Ann Brooks of the home, two children: N. Tracy Brooks and wife Vickie, Shelly Workman and husband Chuck all of Bonner Springs. Six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. Three sisters: Kathy Buckwalter and husband Ray of Bates City, Mo., Maryellen McCormick and Gayle Miles both of Shawnee, KS, as well as his loving church family that will miss him greatly.
