Obituary for Orval W. Herdman

Orval Wallace Herdman passed away on January 18, 2019. He was born December 5, 1923 to Raymond and Elizabeth Herdman. Orval lived most of his life in Piper, Kansas. He married LaVon Maxzine Edmondson September 9, 1944. Orval and LaVon raised two sons in Piper where Orval farmed and worked at Proctor and Gamble. LaVon and Orval were members of Piper Baptist Church. Orval along with his 6 brothers served in WWII. All seven boys safely returned from the war. Orval was a kind, generous man with a quick smile who often rescued strangers off the street. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, seven brothers, and one sister. He leaves behind two sons James (Jim) Herdman with wife Janet and Dwayne Herdman with wife Nora (Sunny); five grandchildren Deirdre Franzen and husband Martin, Melanie Rinke and husband Mike, Eric Herdman, Sara Herdman, and Andrew (Andy) Herdman. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and family friends. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St, Bonner Springs, KS. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral services will be Thursday, January 24 at 11 am with burial following at Bonner Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
