Obituary for Mary "Charlene" Millsap

Mary “Charlene” Millsap
Overland Park, KS, Mary “Charlene” Millsap, 93, of Bonner Springs, KS, passed away quietly on May 20, 2022 in Glenwood Village where she lived with her beloved husband Bill of 73 years. Charlene had long been suffering from a number of illnesses, but with the determination she had shown all her life she stayed strong to the end.
Charlene was born March 23, 1929, in Kansas City, KS, the only child of Carl Arthur Claassen and Lucile Mae Jenkins. She graduated from Turner High School, in Kansas City, KS and attended Kansas State College (now Kansas State University) for several years before she married William Millsap on February 5, 1949.
Charlene was a farm wife to her husband as she raised her 3 children, never working outside the home at that point. She was a 4-H Leader to many community children and was awarded 25 years of service from the Glenwood 4-H Club where her children had been members.
Charlene played the organ at church and demanded her children take at least 2 years of piano lessons each before moving on to some other instrument. She was a strong disciplinarian, sometimes seen chasing her children with a flyswatter. She was both an avid flower and vegetable gardener and passed that trait onto her children.
When Charlene had raised her children she ventured into Real Estate, working over 25 years for Reece Nichols Real Estate of Overland Park advancing to their Million Dollar Club. She was most proud of her real estate achievements.
When her husband Bill bought a Cessna 4-seat airplane and they began to take trips around the country, she also wanted to get a pilot’s license. She felt it would be safer for them both to be certified. She was not to be stopped!
She was a woman of great faith and prayer. She could many times be seen early in the morning in her recliner, still in her robe, mentally going over her growing list of prayers for those in need in her family and friends. She was a true prayer warrior! She loved the Lord and raised her family to have that same love.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Bill of Glenwood Village, her children: Catherine Wacker (Larry), Maryvillle, TN, Dr. Timothy Millsap (Sandra), Ionia, MI, Teresa Erickson (Rev. Michael), Carmel, CA, six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for friends of the family will be at 12 noon on Tues, May 24 at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. Funeral Service for Charlene will follow at 1pm. Interment will be at Edwardsville Cemetery, Edwardsville, KS immediately following the service.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice, 7223 W. 95th Street #230, Overland Park, KS 66212
