Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Laffoon

Mary Elizabeth Laffoon, the owner of the Frontier Steak House in Kansas City, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the age of 102 surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will begin at 9:30 with the Mass following at 10:30 on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Church, 94th State Ave, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Mary was born to Joseph and Bertha Trageser on December 24, 1920. She was one of 8 children. She married Everett Lee “Dutch” Laffoon and welcomed four children to the union. They were married for 63 years until his death in 1999.

Together in 1960, Mary and Dutch built the Laffoon’s Frontier Steak House at 9338 State Ave., Kansas City, KS. They operated the business for over 60 years along with their sons, Ron and Dennis. Memories of the special recipes, such as her homemade pies, and the entertainment Mary and her family helped bring for decades will carry on.

She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church in Kansas City, KS.

Mary is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Bertha Trageser, husband Dutch Laffoon, daughter Joan Keilman, grandson Matthew Keilman, son-in-law Guy Nash, along with her brothers John Trageser, Sam Trageser, Gene Trageser, and sisters Mildred Noel, Josephine Holtgraver, Adaline Henry, and Edith Seck.

Mary is survived by her 3 children Dixie Nash, Ron Laffoon (Jan), Dennis Laffoon (Sandy). 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
