Obituary for Louise E. May

LOUISE E. MAY
Louise E. May, 90, of Basehor, KS passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at her home. Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 6, at Mt. Sidney Cemetery in Linwood, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to either Leavenworth County Meals on Wheels/Council on Aging or Kansas Palliative Care or Walnut Grove Bible Church in care of the funeral home. Louise was born on Dec. 29, 1929 in Medoc, Mo. And was married on September 6, 1947, Dan and Louise moved to the Bonner Springs, Linwood, and Basehor, Ks area where they lived the rest of their lives.
The majority of her time working outside of the home was spent at the Basehor-Linwood School District, where she retired after 25+ years in 2002. She filled many roles in the school district including school bus driver, maintenance, and food service. Louise enjoyed gardening, cooking/canning, playing cards, camping and anything to do with caring for and enjoying her large family “brood”. She was a faithful woman who accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age and finally took the “plunge” and was baptized on January 28, 2001. She kept her baptismal record in her lockbox as that was how important it was to her.
She had a funny sense of humor and has many one-liners that will live on forever with each who knew her. “See you in the funny papers!”
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel D. May in 2002, one daughter Peggy Cooper in 2019 and two son-in-laws Larry C. Gilbert, Sr. in 1998 and Lindsey E. Cooper in 2014. She is survived by five children Dale May and his wife Liz of North Kansas City, MO; Jim May and his wife Pam of Logan, OH; Pat Gilbert of Linwood, KS; Margaret Morrell and her husband Tom of Bonner Springs, KS and Vicki Allen and her husband Gary of Basehor, KS. 22 Grandchildren and many Great and Great Great grandchildren and nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends that will miss her greatly.
