Obituary for Lawrence Calvin Cole Sr.

LAWRENCE C. COLE, SR.

Lawrence Calvin Cole, Sr., 74, of Edwardsville, KS passed away Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at his home. The family will receive friends at the Visitation from 9 to 10 am, Thursday, August 18th, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS and the Graveside Funeral will follow at 11 am at the Leavenworth Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. Lawrence was born on July 20, 1948 in Kansas City, MO and was a lifelong resident of Edwardsville, KS. He was a 1968 graduate of Bonner Springs High School and was named to the East Kansas League all-star team as a football player and placed in the state of Kansas as an outstanding wrestler. Lawrence worked at Lone Star Cement Plant in Bonner Springs where he began his 41-year productive career, ending at Deffenbaugh Industries and retiring in 2012. Lawrence was an honorable veteran of the U.S. Army serving two campaigns in Vietnam under the 11th Infantry Regiment in Chu Lai, earning the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. In his spare time he loved to drag race his 1970 Oldsmobile 442, winning various trophies which were prominently displayed in the house where his children were challenged to get similar trophies exceding their weight and height. He was preceded in death by his parents Preston and Esther Cole and brother Randy Cole in 2015. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 50 years L’Tonya R. Cole of the home; two children Tonya Cole (Rakio Brand) of Atlanta, GA and Lawrence C. Cole, Jr. (Tianika Sharrieff) of Palmdale, CA; four brothers Gilbert Garlington, Preston Cole, Jr., Alfonzo “Speedy” Cole and Jeffrey Cole; two sisters Beatrice Burleson and Evelyn Anderson; five grandchildren Rachelle, William, Joseph, Lauryn and Bryanna.
