Larry Warren Malone
On Friday, June 12, 2020 Larry Warren Malone, loving father of two daughters, passed away at the age of 79. Larry was born August 15, 1940 in Kansas City, KS to Fred and Thelma (Scheidt) Malone and was raised in Bonner Springs, KS. His father died tragically when Larry was 4, and Thelma went on to raise him as a single parent until she married Robert (Buster) Fouts when he was a teenager. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1958.
He attended The University of Kansas and was drafted into the army where he most notably worked to update the state funeral plans at the capital in Washington D.C. after JFK’s assassination. He later worked for List and Clark Construction Company as an estimator in the Kansas City area. Most of his adult life he dedicated to the betterment of commuter rail transportation in Kansas City and the Midwest. He also worked closely with Dr. Charles Wheeler when Dr. Wheeler served as a state senator of the 10th district of Missouri. Larry was a diehard fan of both the Royals and the Chiefs and although a fan of KU he took pride in being Iowa State’s host during many of the Big 8 and Big 12 tournaments when held in KC. He enjoyed showing off Kansas City to visitors and locals alike. He dearly loved and spoke proudly of his two daughters and always had a smile on his face when he was talking about his five grandchildren attending as many of thier games and events as he possibly could.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Heather Grandsire and her husband Jim of Baltimore, MD, and Shannon Villasenor and her husband Dennis, of Olathe, KS; his stepfather Robert (Buster) Fouts, half-brother Kevan Fouts and his wife Debbie, all of Louisburg, Kansas; his five grandchildren, Tanner, Cole and Claire Villasenor of Olathe and Maggie and Jack Grandsire of Baltimore.
Join us to celebrate Larry's life at one of his favorite stomping grounds, the Westport Flea Market. We will say a bit about our dad and anyone who would like to share a memory or a few words may follow. We'd love to see anyone whose life was touched by our dad. It will be this Saturday, August 7th from 2-4pm in their back room.
