Obituary for Katelin Nicole "Kat" Anderson

Katelin Nicole “Kat” Anderson, age 23, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on December 22, 2022. A Private viewing was held on Dec. 28 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. On Friday, January 6th a celebration of her life will be at Harrington Family Event Center, 218 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012 from 5 – 7 pm and immediately following family and friends will be able to share their memories.

Katelin was born on May 4, 1999 in Merriam, Kansas. She graduated Paola High School in the top 10 percent of her class as a Kansas Honors Scholar with concurrent credits from Fort Scott Community College in 2017. At PHS she was active in Theatre Troup 66. Katelin held several stage (acting) roles, performed technical work and costume design. Her stage management roles included Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam which the troupe took to the International Thespian Festival main stage.
Katelin was awarded Outstanding Technical Achievement for Costume Design on Twelfth Night, Best Newcomer Female in a Bit part Midsummer Jersey, Best Actress in a Supporting Role-Ouiser in Steel Magnolias, Academic Letter all years, Theatre letter- Third Year, Forensics Letter- Second year.
Katelin was in Band- Freshman year, Jazz Band- Freshman- Sophomore year, FFA- Freshman year, Journalism- Sophomore year, District Honor band- Freshman-Sophomore year.
Kat’s love for theatre took her to Webster Groves, MO to attend the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts (Webster University Conservatory) which is now known as Webster’s Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts in memory of Peter Sargent whom played a big part in her decision to attend school there. Kat completed 3 years in the costume design program when she decided to change career paths and pursue her love of science and math. Katelin recently obtained her associate degree in Chemical Engineering and had been accepted to start at the Colorado School of Mines, located in Golden, CO in the fall to obtain her bachelor’s degree. One of the top Engineering Schools in the world, it’s a true honor to be accepted that’s a lot of hard work.

Katelin was a Mixologist at the Upstairs Wine Bar in Colorado Springs, CO and then when on break she would work for her Uncle Drew at Inventory Data Services in Kansas.

Kat had a love for travel & adventure and Tiny Tim the Turtle was often along. She loved to snowboard, dance, create, and she was always ready and willing to try new things. Katelin enjoyed hiking and reading on a warm rock in the sun “aka” lizard days.

She was preceded in death by Uncle Charles Chaney, Aunt Denise Smith, Cousin Devon Jacob Danner.
