Obituary for Judith Darlene Hitchcock

Judith (Judy) Darlene Hitchcock passed away July 8th, 2022. Some of us in this world lost our biggest and fiercest cheerleader with her passing. Those on her list of “bragging rights” could do no wrong, and she better not have found out you were not doing all you could to keep it that way.
Having lettered four years in Debate, Judy’s unfettered gift of the gab allowed her to make friends anywhere and everywhere. Laughter and a bit of advice surrounded her life-of-the-party energy that could entertain any dinner table guest lucky enough to sit near her, or anyone who happened to be in the same checkout line at the grocery store.
After graduating from Shawnee Mission West, Judy became part of a select group at Pyramid Life programming computers. When she found out that the men in this same group were making more money, she requested and received equal pay: a woman well-ahead of her time. As she tended to fix those men’s mistakes, she pointed out equal pay was the least that could be done. Clever and perceptive, she was an integral part of the several businesses held by her and her husband, Larry.
Loving to compete, Judy traveled around the United States to exhibit her champion dogs, mainly Irish and Gordon Setters, at conformation shows. This passion was the reason for moving to Bonner Springs in 1976, but only after verifying the schools were great. Judy attended countless sporting, theater, and music events to support her kids and grandkids. While always serving as the scorekeeper at baseball games, Judy helped many umpires properly understand the actual strike zone.
Judy was a fearless overcomer. She approached everything throughout her life whole-heartedly. To those she loved, she gave her whole heart. At her passing in the Cardiac ICU, it was that same heart that didn’t have any more to give.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 48-years, Larry, in 2012. She is survived by her two sons; Bret (Velanie) and Ryan, dear friend Bill, and five grandchildren; Matara, Taylen, Hayden, Trendan, and Colton.
Currently, a memorial service is not planned. Judy would desire you to enjoy living life to its fullest while remembering to cheer on others to do the same.
