Obituary for Joseph Minor Brandenburg Jr.

JOSEPH M. BRANDENBURG, JR.
Joe Brandenburg, 74, of Basehor, Kansas, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Basehor, Kansas, on Monday, March 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. beginning with the rosary at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, also at Holy Angels. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, Lenexa, Kansas.

Joe was born July 1, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Edna Brandenburg. A life long area resident, he graduated from Saint Joseph High School, Shawnee in 1964 where he met Jane Link who became his wife of 54 years. They married at Queen of the Holy Rosary, Wea, on July 30, 1966. Joe accomplished many things in his lifetime including his Eagle Scout Award, an undergraduate degree in Sociology and a Masters in Criminology from UMKC. He then attended post graduate school at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln furthering his criminology studies. Joe and Jane made Basehor, Kansas their forever home in 1973.

For 25 years Joe worked for the U.S. District Court Western District of Missouri retiring as Chief Deputy Probation Officer in 1996. As part of his work, he was tasked with conducting national investigations and his expertise and passion were sought after in training given before the Missouri Bar. After retirement, he conducted investigations for government security clearances.

A devout Catholic and longtime parishoner of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Joe served as president of the pastoral council, a lector and Eucharistic minister and member of the building committee for the current church dedicated in 2010.

Often accompanied by friends, Joe and Jane traveled extensively across the globe. His hobbies also included coaching the boys in sports, growing beautiful flower and water gardens, and trips to Costco. Joe can best be described as an extremely proud husband, father and grandfather, always bragging about his family. The grandchildren brought Joe an immense amount of joy and pride. Joe didn't know a stranger and always offered a helping hand, word of encouragement or a light-hearted tale.

Joe was preceded in death by his son Eric in 2018 and is survived by his wife Jane; and son Aaron, his wife Adriane and children Grace and Joseph; son Damian, his wife Malinda and son Cyrus; daughter-in-law Dana and children Katie and Josh. Joe is also survived by his sister Connie Caldwell and her husband Bob as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Appl Orchard Hospice over the last ten months. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Angels Catholic Church new parish hall building fund in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
