Obituary for Johnny Wade Hylton
Johnny Wade Hylton, age 78, of Bonner Springs, KS, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020 at home while surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be 5-7pm Monday evening, October 12th and funeral 10:30am Tuesday, both at the Elm Grove Baptist Church with the burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Elm Grove Baptist Church.
Johnny was born on May 10, 1942 in Murray, Arkansas as one of nine children born to Claude “Les” & Walsie Hylton. As a child, his family relocated to the Bonner Springs area where he graduated from the Bonner Springs High School in the Class of 1961. In May of 1962, he married Sharon Kay (Johnson). They just recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. When they were a young couple with two children under the age of two, Sharon’s sister, Anne Johnson Theno, passed away. Johnny & Sharon raised Anne’s four children and loved them as their own. Seven years later, they had another child. Over the years, Johnny worked as a dairy farmer and truck driver and later he worked for Hylton Trucking with his brother Larry. Johnny and Sharon attended the Elm Grove Baptist Church, it was always very important to Johnny that his children knew and loved the Lord. Over the years, Sharon & Johnny’s home was always open to anyone and everyone. Johnny was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to all. Johnny loved being outdoors, including hunting and fishing with his brothers. Johnny enjoyed singing with his family and friends, but especially singing with his children. Above all, Johnny loved spending time with his family. His family was the most important thing to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Judy Henry, and one brother Larry Hylton. Survivors include his wife Sharon Hylton of the home, children Gayle Gorman and husband Greg of Tonganoxie, KS., Kimberly Hylton and husband George Waters of Bonner Springs, KS, Dawn Bailey and husband David of Bonner Springs, KS, Darlene Payton of Bonner Springs, KS, Karen Sue Barnett and husband Tom of Bonner Springs, KS, Dennis Theno and wife Donna of Basehor, KS, and Terry Nunn of Olathe, KS
Two brothers: Edward Hylton of Bates City, MO, Carl Hylton and wife Donna of St. Louis, MO. Four sisters: Mary Jo Hembrock and husband Martin of North Little Rock, AR, Wanda Fisher of St. Louis, MO, Anna Sheppard and husband Ernie of Warsaw, MO, and Reba Grass of Springfield, MO, as well as 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
