Obituary for John "Jack" Peters

John “Jack” Peters, age 92, a longtime resident of Edwardsville, KS went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021. Graveside Funeral Services will be at 11:30 AM, Friday, Sept. 24 2021, at the Edwardsville Cemetery. Friends may call at the visitation from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service on Friday, at the Edwardsville Christian Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Abdallah Shriners Children's Transportation Fund in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.

Jack was born on March 31, 1929 in Bonner Springs, Kansas to John T. & Beryle (Matson) Peters. He was the second of 10 children with 6 brothers and three sisters. He married Norma “Jean” Gewelke on December 19, 1949; together they made their home in Edwardsville, KS. Jack joined the navy in 1948 and served on the U.S.S. Chandler during the Korean War. Jack had worked as an Electrical Supervisor with the Santa Fe Railroad. After his retirement he worked as the city inspector and had many other hats for the City of Edwardsville. He and his wife had been longtime members of the Edwardsville Christian Church. Jack was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Abdallah Shrine, and Jesters, for more than 50 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma “Jean” Peters in 2014 and one son John David Peters in 1953. Survivors include his three children: Jackie Freeman and her husband Ed of Bronson, KS; John W. Peters, Jr. of Edwardsville, KS and Jill Denise Peters of Bonner Springs, Ks . One foster son Mark Brauninger and wife Joan of Kansas City, MO. Eight grandchildren Trent, Kristene, John K., Melissa, Derrick, Jarod, Chelsee and Jillian and 16 great-grandchildren As well as several extended family and many friends. Jack never went anywhere that he didn’t see a friend.
