Jerry L. Taylor, age 83, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on Friday, Dec. 6th, 2019. Private Funeral Services are planned with burial in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Olathe, Kansas. Memorial Contributions can be made to Ascend Hospice.
Jerry was born on August 3, 1936 at his family’s home in Stockton, Missouri. He was one of five children born to Pinkman & Ressie (Keith) Taylor. As a young man he left the family farm and moved to Kansas City looking for work. Jerry took a job hauling vegetables to the City Market for a truck farm in rural Merriam. He then went to work with Tom W. Dailey and the two of them bought a garbage truck and started Daley Sanitary Service which later became Johnson County Disposal Service. Jerry married, Shirley Faye (Dailey) Taylor on July 13, 1956 in Overland Park, Kansas. He later retired from Deffenbaugh Disposal. In his retirement he enjoyed “Junking”, making several stops on his usual route, to visit with all of his friends. He and Shirley had been a members of the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parent and two siblings. In 2008 he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Faye Taylor.
Survivors include his five children; Gregory T. Taylor and wife Barbara of Bonner Springs, Dawn E. Taylor of Shawnee, KS., Lora L. Lewis of Olathe, KS., Cari A. Taylor-Hutson, of Bonner Springs, Neil O. Taylor and wife Moni Spinger of Lawrence, KS., two siblings; Judy Devenport and Joe Taylor and his wife Jackie. Nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
