JERRY LEE JARRETT
Jerry Lee Jarrett, 72, of Bonner Springs, KS by way of Tonganoxie, KS passed away on Sat., Sept. 14, 2019 at his home. His Celebration of Life Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am, and Funeral at 10:30 am, both on Sat., Sept 21, at the Bonner Springs - Edwardsville USD 204 Physical Education Center Fieldhouse (YMCA Gym) 100 McDanield St. Bonner Springs, KS with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery with full Military Honors.
The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Jerry to the Christ First Ministries for the New Faith Center Building.
Jerry was born September 3, 1947 in Tonganoxie the fourth child to Leonard E. and Helen K. Jarrett, he went to school and then graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1966 he then enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a Army Ranger with the 101st Airborne and at one time one of the most highly decorated veterans in Kansas having received Two Silver Stars, Four Bronze Stars and handful of Combat Assault Medals and a variety of other awards for his bravery in battle. Returning home in 1968 he married Melva Pinks in 1969 and together they moved to Bonner Springs in 1972 where they raised their family. Jerry worked at Meyers Dairy for many years making Cottage Cheese and later he worked for Colgate and for the B.P.U. at the Nearman Power Plant as a Control Room Operator until he retired. Jerry had a long history of serving his God and his community he was a member of the V.F.W and often spoke at schools on Veteran’s Day, He was a Co-Pastor at Christ First Ministries where he lead the Tues night Men’s Group, the Bonner Springs Ministers Fellowship, Bible Study Fellowship in Olathe, and attended classes at the Central Baptist Theological Seminary, He had been a member of Bonner Beautiful Commission, Bonner Drug and Alcohol committee, the Bonner Planning and Zoning Commission and served on the Bonner Springs City Council for eight years where he had also served as a Mayor Pro Tem. Jerry was always helping others with their concerns and he loved his family, church and his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister and his brother Eugene. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Melva Jarrett of the home. One son Shawn Lee Jarrett (Tara) of Des Moines, IA. Three daughters Olliea R. Jarrett of Bonner Springs, Kyra Jarrett-Jackson (Theo) of Bonner Springs, KS Quadra Jarrett (Lenard) of Bonner Springs, KS. One brother Richard F. Jarrett of Lawrence, KS. And three grandchildren Shawn Jarrett, Kyliea Mel’jer Jarrett and Tre’vawn Jarrett. As well as a host of nephews that he raised like his own and that looked up to him like a father Kyren Pinks, Corey Pinks, Travis Pinks, Ryan Pinks and Troy Jarrett.
