Obituary for Jean Covington Welch

Jean Covington Welch(Jeanie), age 72, of Basehor Kansas, passed away in her home with her husband and son by her side on August 29th after a long struggle with cancer. Jeanie was born on January 8th, 1950, in Columbia, South Carolina to James Covington and Phyllis (Ferrell) Covington. Her father was a career soldier in the United States Air Force. In 1972, Jeanie married her soulmate and best friend of 50 years, Dave Welch. They moved to Salina Kansas in 1972 where she began her career in Human Resources, she always loved helping others and enjoyed her work very much. Jeanie retired in 2010 and in 2013 moved to Basehor, Kansas to be closer to her son, John and granddaughter, Hannah. Not being one to set idle, Jeanie worked as a para educator in the Basehor school district until she was diagnosed with Cancer in 2019, she really loved her time with the kids and was always full of joy when talking about the relationships she had made at the school. Jeanie found her greatest joy in spending time with family and her “girl time” adventures with her granddaughter, Hannah.

Jeanie will be greatly missed by her husband, Dave; her son, John; granddaughter, Hannah; sister, Ann; and brothers, James, and John.

Jeanie was predeceased by her parents, James, and Phyllis Covington.

A Celebration of Jeanie’s Life will be reserved for close family.
