James Richard Masterson
June 7, 1948 – May 15, 2023
James Richard “Rick” Masterson was born on June 7, 1948 to James and Billie Masterson (Hamby) in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1967. Rick married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Stockwell, on November 21, 1969.
Rick worked for the Bonner Lumber Company and then 7-11 stores where he managed and later became a supervisor. Eventually going to work for Farmland Industries, helping open Ampride convenience stores. Before retiring in 2011, he was employed at Flying “J”, in Peculiar, Missouri.
Rick was a member of the Bonner Springs Lion’s Club and an avid bowler. He participated in the USBC National Tournament for 24 years. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and of course, spending time with his grandkids.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Luther Masterson and brother-in-law, Carl Lingo. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his son Cody Masterson (Cody’s fiancée Cari Lynn), three grandchildren; Karley, Jackson & Emmalee Masterson, his sister Peggy Lingo of Indianland, NC and sister-in-law, Julie Masterson of Leawood, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life will be from 1 to 4 pm, Saturday, June 10th at the Harrington Family Event Center.
