JAMES A. LONG
James Allan Long, 81 of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Friday, March 29, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS and Funeral will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 30, at the St. Martin Evangelical Lutheran Church 13849 Hollingsworth Rd. in Kansas City, KS 66109. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, the church or the charity of your choice. Jim was born on April 1, 1937 in Lexington County, SC and spent most of his early years in and around the Bristol, VA and TN area. He was a U.S. Marines Veteran and had graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Accounting from East Tennessee State University. Jim started his 37 year long career at United Telephone of Bristol and retired from Sprint in 1997 as Comptroller. He loved tennis and was very active in several area Tennis clubs through the years playing regularly up until he was 79. He liked growing all types of succulents especially Cactus and Jade. And reading about all types of history was a passion he enjoyed over the years. He was survived by his wife of 21 years Carol Long, they were the loves of each other's lives. Three children JoAnne Long of Independence, MO; Laura Lauridsen (Scott) of Baldwin, KS and Jeff Long (Ginger) of Shawnee, KS. Two brothers Farrell Long (Rose) and Paul Long all of Bluff City, TN. Six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. As well as many other family and dear friends that will miss him greatly.
