Obituary for Iris Allene Deaver
Iris A. Deaver, 93, of Kansas City, KS left this life on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Hillside Village of De Soto, KS. Memorial Graveside Services will be at 1:30 PM, Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 38th and State Avenue in Kansas City, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Iris was born on November 9, 1929, in Tulsa Oklahoma. As a child she lived in Ekalaka, Montana; her family moved to the Kansas City, KS area in the early 1940’s. She attended Northwest Junior High and then graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1947. She married Conrad Deaver in 1949 and devoted herself to raising their seven children. Iris was an excellent seamstress, having made a lot of her children’s clothes and the alterations on her granddaughter’s wedding dress. She enjoyed baking and gardening and was also known to have grown the best tomatoes. Iris was active with the Lady’s Guild at Blessed Sacrament and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. After her youngest child entered school, Iris took a position as the administrative secretary for Blessed Sacrament Catholic School until it closed, at which time she was employed by Catholic Charities for several years until her final retirement. Iris was preceded in death by her husband Conrad Deaver in 1986, a son Michael Deaver in 2012 and an infant grandson Kyle Patrick Deaver in 1997. Iris is survived by her six children, Barbara Deaver of Bonner Springs, KS; Dianne Harvey and husband Mark of Marshall, MO; Mary Deaver of WaKeeney, KS; Caroline Chipman and husband Donald of Shawnee, KS; Kathleen McKinley of Gladstone, MO and Patrick Deaver and wife Gina of WaKeeney, KS; 11 grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren (with another on the way) and a great great-granddaughter.
