Obituary for Harry Neil Griffith

Harry Neil Griffith, age 78, of Bonner Springs, KS. passed away Friday, September 10, 2021. Neil was born Oct. 20, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. When his father, Harry N. Griffith returned home from the War in 1946, the family lived in Pittsburg, Kansas until they relocated to Kansas City, Kansas in 1953, where Neil graduated from Argentine High School in the Class of 1960. Neil married his high School sweetheart, Gail Houts in July of 1961 and they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past July. Neil worked 27 years for Topeka Mill & Elevator, managing the office of the Grain brokerage firm until it closed in 1987. After leaving TM & E he worked as a Transmission Technician for Edgar Transmissions in Muncie, KS., Cottman Transmissions in Olathe, KS., and for himself, developing a reputation for his skill as a builder of Race Engines and Transmissions. He was Chief Mechanic and Engine Builder for several Race Teams over the years, most notably his association as Engine Builder and Crew Chief for the Joe Wallace Race Team at Lakeside Speedway and throughout the Midwest. He received the Late Model Championship Car Mechanic Award from C.A.R.B at Lakeside Speedway in 1977.
Neil is survived by his wife Gail Griffith of the home, three children: son Brian Griffith (Tanya), daughter Dana Patton (Joe), son Jason Griffith. Two brothers Bill and Kelly Griffith, two sisters Marty Griffith and Susy Fitzwater. Nine grandchildren: Daniel (Teri), Zachery, Caleb, Seth, Dylan, Emma, Jordon, Cory and Hannah. Six great-grandchildren: Alexis, Daniel Jr., Taylor, Quinn, Sofia and Sawyer. As well as close family friends that called him grandpa: Debbie, Christopher, Dale, Adam, Adam, Jr., and Alex.
His family is planning a Celebration of his life on Saturday, September 25th from 1-5pm at his home.
