Obituary for Harold Conley Turley

Harold Conley Turley

Harold Conley Turley, age 85, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on Sunday January 15, 2023. Visitation will be 11am to Noon, followed by the Funeral Service at Noon, both Friday, Jan. 20th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery.

Harold was born on June 24, 1937 in Coweta, OK to Worden and Velma May (Rice) Turley. He and his siblings were raised in southern Missouri. During his youth, his family traveled doing seasonal work in California and Oklahoma, and his first job at age 15, was driving a milk truck. At age 16, he moved to Kansas City, KS, to do clean-up work after the flood of ‘51. Harold was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Carpenter’s Union for over 50 years. He had worked for Jack Jones Lumber Company in the 1960’s and 1970’s. In 1974, he went to work for the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities and officially retired in 2002. Harold became a member of Victory Hills Church of the Nazarene, KCK on May 16, 2004 and was baptized June 27, 2004. He was a faithful greeter, never meeting a stranger. Harold was an award-winning horseshoe player. He loved motorcycles and sharp cars, his hobbies included hunting, bowling, swimming, water skiing and exercising at the YMCA. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, family dinners and especially dessert! His first question always, “whatcha got for dessert”!

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Lurene Harris and her husband Leon, three brothers: Boyd Turley and his wife Sue, Donald Turley and Rondol Turley.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Marie (Hill) Turley, of nearly 66 years. They met in 1955 at Richie’s Drive-In, where she was a waitress, and were married March 8, 1957. Together they raised three children, Connie (Tim) Jackson of Shawnee, KS, Randy (Cindy) Turley of Kansas City, MO, Brenda (Mark) Gibbs of Goodlettsville, TN.

Their children have given them six grandchildren, Bradley(Courtney) Cole, Stuart (DeAnn) Turley, Erin (Rob) Harwig, Preston (Danielle) Turley, Krissy Turley, Faith Marie Mayfield and two bonus granddaughters Shannon (Matt) Baskin and Shanda (Matt) Hayes, along with 12 great-grandchildren Jack, Graham and Ella Cole; Keilan, Kole-Conley and Kameron Harwig; Gabe, Abbi and Kenedie Turley; Grayson, Brantley and Miles Turley and six bonus great-grandchildren Carter, Harper, Callie Baskin and Meredith, Aniston and Keaton Hayes.

He is also survived by two of his sister-in-law’s: Leveta Turley and Kathy Turley.
