Obituary for Harold Leon "Leon" Cunningham Sr.

Harold “Leon” Cunningham, 74, passed away August 13, 2019 at Providence Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends and fellowship from 6 to 8pm, Tuesday, August 20th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11am Wednesday, August 21st at the First Baptist Church of Basehor (1410 155th St. Basehor, KS.) Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Memorial gifts can be made to First Baptist Church of Basehor.
Leon was born on February 27, 1945 in Trenton, MO. Leon grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1963. A year later, he married Loretta (Tickles), the love of his life of more than 55 years. Starting their marriage in KCK, the two built their lives in Basehor starting in 1973, raising two sons, Lee of Lenexa, KS and Rob (Leesa) of Bonner Springs, KS. Leon retired from Beaufort Transfer in 1996, he also worked in real estate for many years. After retiring, he worked for O’Reilly delivering parts. He spent many years as a deacon and usher serving in fellowship with his community at First Baptist Church of Basehor. He enjoyed working on projects with his brother-in-laws at the lake, coaching youth baseball for 16 years, serving as leader for the Basehor Rustlers 4-H club, celebrating Chiefs games and NASCAR races. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Allison (Jake Kromer), Carli (Andrew Reith), Alex, Maegan and Tyler, and his great-grandson, Brayden.
